For the second year in a row, my mom and I headed to Newport, Rhode Island on a beautiful July morning for the Angela Moore Fashion Show and Champagne Brunch. This annual event marked Moore’s seventeenth celebration and third elegant affair in the gilded ballroom at Rosecliff. Being a new mom, it was refreshing to spend some quality time with my own mom while Mr. Chat had one-on-one time with our son, Le Chat Petit.
Michaela Johnson, co-host of The Rhode Show, broadcasted live throughout the morning and introduced chic nautical looks modeled alongside local tatsemakers including Miss Rhode Island 2015 Allie Curtis, Miss Rhode Island 2013 Jessica Marfeo and newly crowned Miss Rhode Island 2016 Shruti Nagarajan. Johnson wore a coral Taylor dress (pictured above), a green toile Dizzy Lizzie shift dress inspired by the Chinese Tea House and a nautical knit dress by Sailor Sailor.
As in previous years, nationally renowned stylist and designer Angela Moore served as emcee and introduced more than 100 looks she fashioned for a “Seaside Sensations” theme. Moore makes the art of dressing look and feel effortless, and her vision flaunts the best in Newport boat, beach, resort and cocktail attire year after year. “We love the spirit of Newport nautical style and the exhibit looks inspire the way we dress today,” said Moore.
In addition, the Preservation Society curated a style exhibit exclusively for the event which featured garments from their costume archives. The pieces were inspired by the signal flags found on famous steamship yachts during Newport’s colonial Golden Age. A Versace polychrome dress with flag motifs immediately caught my eye and impressed many. Guests also gushed over a blue silk Yves St. Laurent two-piece with red fish embellishments – a one-of-a-kind beauty raved a sophisticated woman sitting at my table.
Guests indulged in free-flowing Champagne cocktails and enjoyed a delightful brunch prepared by Russell Morin Fine Caterers. Serval raffle winners took home prizes courtesy of Kent Russell, Christian Louboutin, the Newport Marriott and Newport Pilates. All proceeds from the Angela Moore Fashion Show and Champagne Brunch benefit the Preservation Society’s mission to protect, preserve and present its exceptional collection of house museums and landscapes. If you missed this summer’s festivities, join me along with Newport’s finest in 2017.
