My Design Style: Part 2

After a nice evening shopping for gray, purple and blue bedroom decor for the master suite (was side tracked from my home office project), I finally found a few minutes to write about my design style results…a continuation from yesterday’s post (click here if you missed it).

Question 5: What destination is worthy of your precious frequent-flyer miles?

A) Paris
B) Mountains
C) Seaside
Duh! Paris…strolling the Champs–Elysées in my Tory Burch flats! Next!

Question 6: Of these famous women, whose closet would you most like to raid?
A) Jennifer Aniston
B) Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
C) Sheryl Crow
Absolutely, positively not Sheryl Crow…I just don’t do the the country look. I do love Jennifer Aniston post-Friends. Now a days, she looks flawless and purrfectly chic…even in just jeans and a tank. I especially loved her look at the Bounty Hunter premiere in 2010 where she paired an Alexander McQueen tuxedo jacket with a Valentino couture dress and these hot Jimmy Choo ‘Lance’ sandals.

However with that said, I did not choose Jennifer Aniston, but rather Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. For me, Jackie O is the ultimate fashion and style icon because she is timeless. Plus, who wouldn’t want vintage Chanel in their closet

Question 7: Choose the dog that best suits your life style? 

A) Labrador Retriever
B) Sheltie
C) Poodle 
If you haven’t noticed already, I’m not really a dog person. However, I do love all animals and chose the Labrador Retriever since he looked like a cute and cat-friendly breed. 
I love cats!!!
 
Question 8: Which of these is your dream home?
A) Cape Cod
B) Colonial
C) Craftsman 
I could never get used to the second level windows of Capes (or the Cape Cod). They look decent from the outside, but the funky cut-outs inside are just not ideal for tall people. I chose the colonial with a touch of craftsman…and 2.5 kids, le chat, the lab and a grey-sliver Mercedes Benz S-Class in the driveway! I dream well…you should too.
Dream Home
I was excited for my results. I was sure the quiz gods would describe my design style as “traditional with a modern twist” or perhaps “crisp and clean with a hint of contemporary” or even “conservatively chic”. I was prepared of that, but I wasn’t prepared for the word Cottage. Seriously?!? Cottage?!? The description read:
 
“Laid-back” best describes your way of life, which means Cottage style is right up your alley. You love rooms that feel casual, breezy, and informal. Consider slipcovered furniture and painted wood pieces to achieve a put-your-feet-up vibe. Use crisp white as the ideal backdrop for layers of soft accent colors found in pillows, rugs, and vintage accessories.
 

If you know me well, you would never describe my design style as Cottage. As a matter of fact, I was miserable the first (and only) time I vacationed in a cottage. I do love crisp whites, I do love accent colors, but I don’t do slipcovered furniture. I mean even my mother doesn’t do slipcovered furniture. The quiz gods must have pegged me for Cottage because I chose that ugly slipcovered chair on question #4…it was a Cottage conspiracy.

In my own words, I would describe my design style as contemporary chic with a hint of traditional. I love crisp, fresh, clean lines against dark black-brown woods with touches of vibrant jewel tones or antique damask patterns.  I love bold colors in the right places and I’m slightly obsessed with glass and mirrored furniture.  What I love…

I’m not professionally trained in interior design. Ultimately, my decorating style just really depends on my mood…it fuels what I love. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be in a Cottage mood and I’ll buy a flowery slipcovered chair. Never say never!
